I used to dread the night knowing it would sometimes take me hours to fall asleep or I'd wake up frequently during the night and not be able to go back to sleep. I took melatonin which did not work well for me. What I have learned is that the sun is our original clock and our entire hormonal body and body clock is driven by natural light. When the sun goes down, we must protect ourselves from artificial blue light in order for our body to know it is time to sleep. The lights that light our home, as well as smart phones, computers and television all have blue light which signals the body that it is daytime and we should be awake. I now use these special red lights that allow me to see as I move around the house. I also use high quality blue light blockers if I am on my phone, computer or watching TV. I get really sleepy now and fall asleep easily. I do not take melatonin which is actually bad for the eyes if taken while using blue light, thinning the retina. Melatonin disrupts photoreceptor regeneration in the eyes. Our own cells make melatonin when our circadian rhythm is operating correctly. And of course, Tai Chi Gung breathing helps to quiet the mind. Tai Chi Gung warm-up and standing exercises improves the 4th dimension astral body vibrations, where so many negative emotions are held and 'dealt with' during sleep. If I do wake up in the middle of the night, I keep my mind on high vibrating thoughts of gratitude or prayer. If a negative thought enters my mind, I immediately replace it with a positive thought. I fall asleep in 5-10 minutes and usually don't wake up for 7-8 hours when the alarm goes off. Here is the link to the website where I purchase the lights and blue blocking eyewear. Sweet dreams!
